Vault vs pCloud
A monthly alternative to lifetime cloud storage bets.
pCloud sells lifetime plans that work out cheap if the company is still healthy in ten years and expensive if it is not. Vault is the opposite philosophy. A flat monthly bill, no front-loaded payment, and a US operator who would rather earn a small renewal than a large lump sum.
Why people end up looking
- Lifetime plans concentrate vendor risk into a single up-front payment.
- You cannot easily downsize once you commit, even if your storage needs shrink.
- Support quality varies by region and time zone.
- You may want a US operator with a name attached, particularly if the files matter.
Side by side
| Thing | pCloud | Vault |
|---|---|---|
| Pricing model | Monthly, annual, or lifetime up front | Flat monthly only |
| Vendor risk | Concentrated if you buy lifetime | You can leave any month with no sunk cost |
| Operator | Switzerland-based company | US, single operator (Scott) |
| Best use | You want a one-time payment and accept the bet | You want a low monthly bill and a person to call |
When Vault is the better fit
You would rather pay a small predictable bill every month and be able to cancel cleanly, than make a large bet on any single vendor staying healthy for a decade.
